Hariton Ulianov has one great love: Life!

That particular love affair however does not hamper him in his pursuit of enjoying life’s simpler pleasures. For him every woman is beautiful, every wine is superior when shared with good company and every situation an opportunity for fun and merrymaking.

His position as Schoolmaster in a small provincial town on the island of Corfu gives him the opportunity to share his own unique philosophy especially with the students that participate in his greatest passion: the choir. His tender and playful outlook on life is an inspiration to his students who find themselves facing all the trials and tribulations of adolescence in a Greece which is facing the challenges of life under a dictatorship.

“Tears From Paradise” (Silicon Tears) is a parody of the main melodramatic themes of old Greek commercial films of the ’60s.

The story is a synthesis of the most common themes developed during that period. It is about the conflict between two families: the poor Bisbiki family and the rich Delafraga family, in a story that takes us from folk melodrama to the movies of social criticism, to courtroom dramas, to musical shows of the ’60s. Unfulfilled love stories, class differences, sinking ships, long lost children, quarrels and above all dark secrets. Secrets that take us back to the years of the German Nazi Occupation and even further back, to the beginning of the century, using two flashbacks inspired by the cinematography of the time..

The film was directed by Olga Malea, the script was written by Manina Zoumboulaki
